My secrets for long, shiny & healthy hair

I often get the question, how I get my hair so thick and shiny. I have tried several things with my hair – and I’m sharing my secrets below…

First of all, your genetics play a big part in how your hair looks and feels. Since I’m a full blood Persian, I am naturally gifted with a lot of hair. To get my hair the way it looks almost every day, I have incorporated some steps in my routine.

Let’s start off with washing hair! Some girls wash their hair every day (!), but I can’t imagine myself doing that. Washing my hair takes quite some time. I wash my hair every three days, because that’s when I feel like my hair is ‘dirty’. While washing my hair, I currently use Eucerin, which is free from silicones, parabens and colorants.

Every now and then I still have an itchy scalp, but I think that’s mostly because I shower really hot… So tip number 2: Shower and rinse your hair with cold water: Of course, I (and I think you too) cannot shower with water as cold as Winterfell, but I do rinse my hair with cold water after every shower. There are multiple benefits from rinsing your hair with cold water:

  1. Shiny hair – The cold water closes your hair’s cuticles, which leads to shiny hair
  2. Bye Bye Frizz – Your hair will not be as frizzy as it was before
  3. Eliminates dandruff – Yeah, that’s why my scalp was always so itchy! The hot water will irritate your scalp, but the cold rinse will circulate blood better around that area.

After I shower, I always use a hairdryer to dry my hair. With the warm weather coming, I am air drying my hair more and more, to prevent damage. Either way, I first spray a heat resistance spray in my hair. After that, I use my defo ‘holy grail’ of John Frieda, which is the “Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixer”. This product has changed my hair for the good: it has softened my hair and my former, frizzy hair is now almost gone.

The heat protecting spray is necessary to keep my hair from getting split ends etc.: I use my hair straightener every three days to get straight or curly hair – yes, I don’t curl my hair with a curling wand and I most definitely don’t curl it every day! A curling wand has never worked for me: the curls usually would fall out within two minutes, so I found that using my straightener does the job for me. I will post a short curling tutorial on YouTube soon!

Helmet hair makes you feel like…

Helmet hair makes you feel like…

We’ve all been there before. Washing our hair, combing it, getting ready for a fun day on our motorcycle. But, the struggle is real if you have long hair. Let me explain!

1. Combing – but knowing it will all be useless.

Yup, that hair won’t stay like that!

2. Braiding hair like a pro

Being aware of what will happen with it if you have layered hair… Not so much fun.

3.  Taking off your helmet
beyonce-braid
How you feel like when you take of your helmet – YAS QUEEN!

4. How you actually look like

Well… That’s less charming than you thought.

5. Not wearing braids but going 80 mph/130 kmh

WHY!!!

6. Trying to take care of tangled hair

Well… Yup. That’s not what I expected.
I’ve been there, experienced it all. And until this day I am STILL regreting my choice of cutting my hair in layers. You can read why in this blogpost. Nonetheless, I’m being creative with helmetproof hairstyles and I’m testing everything! I also have a great solution to detangle your hair easily. Follow me on Instagram to stay up-to-date!

Why you should NEVER cut your hair in layers

Why you should NEVER cut your hair in layers

So… Here comes an emotional story of my hair and me.

No, I’m kidding. Not emotional, just informational! About three weeks ago, I went to the hairdresser to get my hair cut. It was so long, I was quite done with it. First, I wanted to cut it all off and make a bob out of it… But the BF doesn’t like that and well, I’m so used to my long hair that it was too scary for me. I decided I wanted to get some layers in my hair.

My hairdressers always told me not to cut my hair into layers, because it would frizz too much. I asked her this time and I said that I really liked the layers. She told me that it was not a problem at all. Once seated, she started cutting off my hair. I texted my BF and joked I was going for a bob, but a second after that I saw 15cm of my hair. falling. down.

Shock.

Seriously. I was so shocked. She started cutting all the layers and my hair just got thinner and thinner. If you have seen me in RL, you know that I HAD really long and thick hair. Anyways… These layers are a pain in the ass, but it will force me to create unique hairstyles. I’m curious too to see what I can do with it! I already have some cool ideas 😉

Stay tuned for bikergirl hairstyles!
