I often get the question, how I get my hair so thick and shiny. I have tried several things with my hair – and I’m sharing my secrets below…
First of all, your genetics play a big part in how your hair looks and feels. Since I’m a full blood Persian, I am naturally gifted with a lot of hair. To get my hair the way it looks almost every day, I have incorporated some steps in my routine.
Let’s start off with washing hair! Some girls wash their hair every day (!), but I can’t imagine myself doing that. Washing my hair takes quite some time. I wash my hair every three days, because that’s when I feel like my hair is ‘dirty’. While washing my hair, I currently use Eucerin, which is free from silicones, parabens and colorants.
Every now and then I still have an itchy scalp, but I think that’s mostly because I shower really hot… So tip number 2: Shower and rinse your hair with cold water: Of course, I (and I think you too) cannot shower with water as cold as Winterfell, but I do rinse my hair with cold water after every shower. There are multiple benefits from rinsing your hair with cold water:
- Shiny hair – The cold water closes your hair’s cuticles, which leads to shiny hair
- Bye Bye Frizz – Your hair will not be as frizzy as it was before
- Eliminates dandruff – Yeah, that’s why my scalp was always so itchy! The hot water will irritate your scalp, but the cold rinse will circulate blood better around that area.
After I shower, I always use a hairdryer to dry my hair. With the warm weather coming, I am air drying my hair more and more, to prevent damage. Either way, I first spray a heat resistance spray in my hair. After that, I use my defo ‘holy grail’ of John Frieda, which is the “Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixer”. This product has changed my hair for the good: it has softened my hair and my former, frizzy hair is now almost gone.
The heat protecting spray is necessary to keep my hair from getting split ends etc.: I use my hair straightener every three days to get straight or curly hair – yes, I don’t curl my hair with a curling wand and I most definitely don’t curl it every day! A curling wand has never worked for me: the curls usually would fall out within two minutes, so I found that using my straightener does the job for me. I will post a short curling tutorial on YouTube soon!
