EVENT: 2019 Pure & Crafted Festival by BMW Motorrad

by Beauty Biker October 18, 2019
written by Beauty Biker

On Saturday the 28th of September, BMW Motorrad invited me to join them on their Pure & Crafted festival. This was also the day that I went to the store opening of the new Intimissimi store in Amsterdam (blogpost coming soon). The main reason for me to check out the Pure & Crafted festival was the mix between bikes and lifestyle. When I arrived at the spot, the whole venue had a ‘heritage’ / ‘vintage’ feeling.

“In terms of style, the programming stays eclectic, covering rock, folk, alternative and adjacent flavors. Less adrenaline-soaked but just as impressive, the International Custom Bike Show in the Wheels Area offers a grand vista of beauty in steel, rubber and gasoline. Customizers from around Europe present achingly beautiful bikes and let us in on a few tricks of the trade, showing off the art and craft that goes into the creation of unique designs. See, experience and chat about the painstaking handiwork that goes into top-level bike customization, while grabbing a lekker bite to eat!” – PureandCrafted.com

Ofcourse, one thing that I could not miss was the Press launch of the BMW Motorrad Heritage Lifestyle Collection 2020. They displayed both a male and female model wearing an outfit of their new range. Everything looked crisp and clean, but I still had some questions on top of my mind to ask! So that’s why I shook hands with Christian Cartsburg from BMW Motorrad, who knows everything about the brand new Heritage Lifestyle collection. Christian told me that BMW Motorrad always strives for the best protection possible – which is ofcourse key when it comes to creating riders gear.

When it comes to fashion, they did strive to create riderswear that does not look like gear. Now, we know it’s very fashionable these days to wear ‘bikerboots’ and ‘leather bikerjackets’ – and there are tons of options available in the fasion industry, but none of them with real protection. But now, BMW Motorrad has stepped up their game and come with their own line of true bikergear. One of the questions I had, was if their designteam thought of the female figure, meaning to create more tailored fit clothing. And the answer to that question is… Y-E-S! They did! All the gear of the 2020 collection has a special female (waisted) cut > so guess who’s happy. I am!

Lets get back to stuff that you could do at the venue. Lets start off with… FOOD. There were so many amazing foodtrucks, serving the best pulled nacho’s and more. I’m drooling as we speak. But there was also an old school barbershop where men could get shaved (for free!). So of course, Bram went in for a shave as I went to… cuddle a cute dog. *insert dog pic … HERE!*

There was also a whole area filled with custom built motorcycles. From weird, almost non rideable bikes to more old school/ modern, sophisticated ones. In one of the corners stood a friend of mine, Arjan van den Boom, who’s the owner of Ironwood Custom Motorcycles. He is, in all honesty – not because I know him, one of the best bike builders in my opinion! If you’re interested in his creations, check out his Instagram page HERE, or the pictures down below.

That being said – I’m excited for next years Pure & Crafted Festival – I hope to see a lot more people (you guys!) and a lot more custom bikes, maybe even an area where you can get information on how to start with customizing your bike.

That’s all for now! Until next time.

TEST: Vespa Elettrica

by Beauty Biker June 26, 2019
written by Beauty Biker

Whoo-hoo! I was invited by Vespa to test out their BEAST machine, the Vespa Elettrica. With more than 563hp it… I’m kidding! Yes, it’s totally different than a motorcycle, but it’s brand new technology which made me super curious. So hang on, because I’m sure you’ll like what I have to say!

Let’s start with a tiny bit of history. Vespa launched their first scooter in April 1946, Rome, Italy. With its iconic design and look, it immediately hit the market on the right spot. The years after, Vespa kept renewing their scooters with new tech, and in 1957 it even brought a Vespa car into the market. With only 30.000 cars (Vespa 400) to be sold, Vespa quickly got back to their beloved two wheels. For me, the word Vespa is linked to scooter, or the other way around. It’s common to call an action camera a “Go Pro”, and a tablet “iPad”. I have always said that if I would get a scooter, it has to be a Vespa. The style, design and the whole look and feel gives me Italian vibes – and I adore that.

For the Vespa Elettrica launch, I went to the Sofitel Legend The Grand Hotel in Amsterdam – which is a very classic and chique hotel. The breakfast was super Italian, which made me get into the Italian vibes easily. We got some explanation about the scooter and it’s technology behind it. This is the first electric scooter that Vespa has brought to the market. Fun fact: The designers are so keen on keeping the Vespa a Vespa, that they even added an exhaust to the scooter!

After a short walk-and-talk around, I got curious and started to ask questions. As some of you might have noted, the Vespa comes at an RRP of €6.629 (Dutch retail price). This is more than other electric scooters, soooo I asked them: Why?

The Vespa Elettrica is… A VESPA! That means that it comes with a legacy. It is 100% European made, the frame is made out of steel and it has a 25kg battery. Next to that, the Vespa has a full LCD screen and the used technology is quite some steps ahead of it’s competitors. Buying a Vespa (Elettrica) is an investment. I compare it to buying a designer bag; most of them are Italian made, expensive yet they have a WOW-factor.

Well, enough tech-talk, let’s tell you something about the ride! So we went from Amsterdam tooooo… Utrecht! The first Piaggo brand store opened in Utrecht, so we went and visited the spot. The shop looked amazing and it even had small, cute Vespa goodies that you could buy. Lol I’m such a nerd for cute things – if I ever get to buy a vehicle, please inform the dealer to remove all the cute keychains and toys because I’ll buy it all…

The ride itself was 1 hour and 30 minutes. My bike was charged, with 78% remaining. At the end of the trip, I still had 43% left! I was actually scared that the battery wouldn’t hold up. Yet you can ride about 100km with the scooter before charging it. A good point of information (ya girl asked some serious questions!), is that the lifespan of the Vespa battery is around 1000 full cycles of charging, meaning that you can ride up to 70.000km with the scooter.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this reviewed as much as I enjoyed not being able to ride any faster than 50km/h lololol! I really did!! Until next time.

Press Event: Louis Motorrad opens their first shop in the Netherlands!

by Beauty Biker March 3, 2019
written by Beauty Biker

On the 1st of March, Louis Motorrad invited me to join them during the opening of their first store in the Netherlands. Being the biggest European company in motorcycle gear, parts and accessories, I of course could not resist on going there to take a look!

Our day (yes, R1dingRooster was there with me too) started off relaxed. We arrived at the Louis MEGAshop in Tilburg at 12:00PM and before we got to take a look around, Louis informed us about their business and what the day was going to be like.

Let’s start of with a little bit of information about Louis Motorrad – I’m going to be totally honest with you guys, I had heard of Louis Motorrad in the past, but I really didn’t know they were THIS big!

– actual representation of my reaction –

The first shop, called Lohmann & Louis, opened in the year 1938 in Hamburg, Germany. After 8 years, Detlev Louis became the owner of the company – a company that was  foremost focused on importing new and used vehicles. Fast forward to 2019: Louis Motorrad has more than 80 (!) stores, located in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and since the 1st of March, also in the Netherlands. Their concept exists of staff that is well trained (yes, each staff member gets a training and boy – the staff I spoke to knew EVERYTHING about any possible motorcycle clothing brand), but also out of multiple “shop” options, being “FUNshop”, “MEGAshop” or a 1500m2 “GIGAstore”!

The shop opened in Tilburg is a so called “MEGAshop” – a shop filled with biker gear; clothes, helmets and a lot of accessories! I was quite amazed about the amount of products in the shop. Louis does not only sell the “well known” brands of motorcycle gear, but they also have their own brands, being: Vanucci, AJS, Probiker, Cafe Racer, Nihua and MTR. Since I have never heard of those brands, I got to choose some gear to test it out for you guys – so be ready for the upcoming reviews about my Louis gear.

I did test out my Vanucci Competizione IV leather jacket while practising my first wheelies with Jo Bauer! WHOOO how fun was that! I was so proud of myself that I did like 4 or 5 mini wheelies. Normally, a wheelie training takes a day, but I accomplished doing my wheelies in less than 20 minutes, so yeah… #proud

Well, I think I have well informed you all about Louis Motorrad and what they do and sell! If you’re interested in checking out their range of products, go visit www.louis.nl and take a look around – or go visit their brand new store at Kraaivenstraat 28, in Tilburg.

Until next time!

REVIEW: A day at Supermotorschool

by Beauty Biker July 21, 2016
written by Beauty Biker

There are so many different types of motorcycles. Riding a supermoto, well.. I have never done that until Wednesday, 13th of July. Some of you guys who follow me on Snapchat/Instagram may have seen some pictures of me riding a supermoto. It was not just a day of experiencing a supermoto, but it was so much more!

I went to Supermotorschool in Valkenswaard, a company founded by Marcel van Drunen. Marcel is a 9th time Dutch champion in Supermoto, with also many more titles. He founded Supermotorschool in 2007, to promote supermoto riding in the Netherlands. Since then, a lot of people have visited him for a fun day at Supermotorschool.

So, Beauty Biker went there to experience the difference between supermoto’s and superbikes. But.. mostly because I heard that 95% of his students are male! Say whaaaat! Yes that’s right girls, 5% women instead of 50%! That’s something that definitely has to change. So, brace yourself and read on, because I had superfuntime and I don’t see any reason why other girls shouldn’t.

THE MORNING
At 6.30 AM I got up and got ready for our trip to Supermotorschool. Yes, as the diva I am, I had two people with me for filming. My boyfriend Bram and good friend Jimmy (thanks again for helping!). While they were still sleeping, I was in a rush for doing my hair (which I eventually did in the car) and make-up.

I didn’t know what to expect, which made it more exciting! I brought with me an old helmet, my white Sidi boots and my handgloves. Tip: Bring old motorcycle boots if you have those, because you are going to use them well! 😉

THE ARRIVAL
I arrived at 9.30 AM, being the first one to show up. Not much later, a group of Belgium guys stepped inside. They had two girls in their group, but unfortunately they were not going to ride with us. So that being said, I was the only girl in the group! After some explanation about the day and what do to when something bad happens, we went outside and walked across the track. We stopped at every corner, so Paddy (one of the teachers) could explain what we should do while riding there. After a while, Ronnie (another teacher) came by on his supermoto and showed us how we had to do stuff. Well, what he showed us seemed impossible in the beginning to me! This whole day is focussed around three area’s: Cornering, sliding and braking (in time). I put the focus for myself of cornering and braking, since these are two things that I will use in my everyday life. Could you imagine seeing me sliding into a corner on my Yamaha R6? LOL!

RIDING SUPERMOTO
After the explanations, I went to change my clothes and got to wear a MVD Racewear suit. The brand MVD stands for Marcel Van Drunen, his own collection of racewear for supermoto riders. I also got to wear some supermoto boots which I borrowed from Paddy, but they were a size 42 while I’m a size 40. This was one of the biggest struggles I had: Since the boots were too big, I couldn’t shift gears easily. At first, I thought there was a problem with the bike (blame it on the bike), but after Ronnie hopped on my bike with me in front, he showed me that shifting was easy peasy.

So, after that I started blaming the boots. The teachers said I just had to go on and stop being such a wuss, so I did. I did change my boots at the end, which I probably should have wore from the beginning on, so take this as a tip! My own Sidi boots are so much more comfortable than the supermoto boots. These boots were too big and stiff, I couldn’t move your feet up and down. So my timing was a bit off, since I couldn’t shift easily. This made it a bit hard for me to learn how to brake in time, but as the laps got more and more, I was getting to know the hang of it and I learned where to use my brakes. This made it possible for me to get my bike flat into a corner. Sliding into a corner was not something I really wanted to learn, since braking and cornering was already hard to do. To get a real supermoto feeling, Marcel invited me to sit behind him on his bike. Well, I sure do know now how sliding into a corner feels like, haha!

DSC09066

Look, one hand! (And there’s me sitting behind Marcel)

This whole day was such an amazing experience. It was my first time riding a supermoto, I got to know the funniest teachers and most importantly: I got a lot of self confidence for riding a motorcycle. You will learn your limits and you will probably fall down too, but it’s all part of the experience. If you want to know full, detailed information, you should book yourself a superfun day at Supermotoschool ;-)! I got a lot of self confidence, which made me pass my motorcycle exam one week later! I can say that I’m not the best in cornering, but since my lesson I’m trying a lot more to get the hang out of it.

This day was powered by Supermotorschool.nl and MVD Racewear. If you want to book yourself a fun day, go to www.supermotorschool.nl and sign up with your (girly) friends. Don’t forget to tell me how your day was!

I sold my Kawasaki Ninja 250R! I waved my froggy goodbye and I gave it a last kiss. I waited for 10 seconds and… It didn’t turn into a prince sadly.

Motorbeurs 2016 / Motorcycle event 2016

On a rainy Saturday, I went to the ‘Motorbeurs’ with my hubby, his brother and a friend of mine. The Motorbeurs is an event where all motorcycle brands showcase their new motorcycles. There are also a lot of companies that show their second hand bikes, and you also have the opportunity to buy bikergear for a good price. We arrived in Utrecht around 12AM and we started our tour. It was só crowded! But that didn’t stop us from drooling…

One of the first stands we visited had some cool helmets.I love HJC, but oh my god, just look at this!

IMG_7014-(2)

Doesn’t it look great?! Please don’t mind the squishy eye. I tend to get that when I get over excited.
I didn’t buy this helmet, because I ride a sportsbike. But if I ever buy a chopper, I think I’m going to buy this badboy. This is the Custom 500 Bell helmet. It retails for only $159 and you can buy it here. The color I’m wearing is “Chem Candy Mean Green”.

After our helmet photoshoot, we went searching for our beloved bikes. I love the Ducati Panigale. They say you can’t buy love, but if you buy a sportsbike, it gets really close. *twinkles with eyes*. I don’t have a good picture of me on the Pani, but I will promise to make one soon!

Currently, the Panigale is too expensive for me. So, wandering around on the Motorbeurs made me think about what motorcycle to get next. I personally don’t like naked bikes and tour bikes, but a supersport is currently my style. Just when I thought I had seen it all, I stumbled upon this..:

IMG_7131-(2)

WHAT ARE THOSEEEE?!
I haven’t seen anyone ride one before here in the Netherlands. I don’t find it practical too. I have my own reasons:

  1. It’s too big
  2. You can’t manoevre through small lanes
  3. You can’t park it on the sidewalk

Overall feeling about this weird thing: Meh.

IMG_7019-(2)

After looking around and sitting on various bikes, I found Rossi’s helmet. This one is the AGV K-3 SV Elements, an integral helmet. I find this quite too big, because I’m so used to my HJC RPHA 10+. I will review my HJC helmet in the next blogpost and I will tell you everything you need to know!

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @beautybiker and Snapchat: beauty.biker

See you next time!
